Welcome to the Formulaic Language in Historical Linguistics: data, methods, tools, and theory conference!

The conference will be held at Tieteiden talo (the House of Finnish Learned Societies) in Helsinki on Monday and Tuesday, 2-3 June 2025.

The event consists of two full days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with two parallel sessions (see Programme).

Lunch and coffee will be served on the venue on both days (free for one person per presentation).

The conference will not have an official conference dinner, but suggestions for restaurants will be provided nearer the time. After a day's work, you may also be tempted to try the sauna at the Allas Sea Pool instead (subject to availability).

The venue is in the centre of Helsinki (Kirkkokatu 6, see map) within around 15 minutes walking distance (1.1 km) from the main railway station and from many hotels. It is highly recommended to book your hotel well in advance if you want to secure a room at a decent price.

The conference is organized by the Academy of Finland project “The learning of Latin in the 8th to 12th century: a linguistic approach to medieval Latin literacies” (PI Timo Korkiakangas) in collaboration with the Classical Philological Society of Finland

Looking forward to seeing you in Helsinki!

  • Marja Vierros (Professor of Classical Philology, University of Helsinki)
  • Tommi Jauhiainen (PI of the project Automatic Classification and Analysis of Texts from Egyptian Antiquity, University of Helsinki)
